A large orange explosion will cover a portion of the map, (and any player caught inside will automatically eject from their vehicle,) instantly killing all players caught in the explosion and obtaining a nuke reward. Seconds later, it will launch, fly in an arc through the air, the same guidance from the April 4th Live Event and land at a beach near Rising City. At the same time, a large green nuke will spawn in the silo. After completing the E prompt from the big red button, the server message " Warning! has launched a nuke! With the right level of training and experience in how to prevent infections with aseptic technique, clinicians are better able to protect their patients during invasive procedures, as well as reduce postoperative complications.Īseptic technique is classified into two different categories: standard aseptic technique and surgical aseptic technique. Sterile gloves are required for complicated procedures that may require touching of key parts and sites, whereas non-sterile gloves are the preferred choice for basic procedures where there is no contact with key parts and sites. The choice of which glove to wear draws a parallel to the risk of contamination between the healthcare worker and the patient. Based on the most recent WHO guidelines, alcohol gel, such as PrimeOn Hand Sanitiser, provides the best antimicrobial efficacy compared to other hand hygiene solutions and is recommended for preoperative surgical hand preparation (National Health and Medical Research Council 2010).Īccording to Rowley and Clare (2011), performing aseptic technique involves identifying and protecting key parts (medical equipment) and key sites (devices connected to the patient). ![]() A key factor of aseptic non-touch technique is hand hygiene, which must be performed correctly to achieve a higher level of protection against pathogens. Preventing Infections with Aseptic TechniqueĪseptic technique is a requirement for all invasive procedures, with the central goal for clinicians to maintain asepsis in the healthcare setting through hand hygiene, non-touch technique, glove usage and the sterility of equipment. ![]() Presumably the first two Gothic games, but I could never get past their terrible controls. Sadly, it also has the same problems as the previous game. It’s clunky and janky, but compelling and can be a breath of fresh air when you’re used to a steady diet of over-polished AAA affairs. It’s an open-world RPG that cares precisely not one jot about whether you live or die. ![]() In the first game, this was a desert region inhabited by the Outlaws, but the area has been conquered by the Berserkers and terraformed with the aid of their magic tree thingies, making it lush and green.Įlex 2 is very much a Piranha Bytes game. The high point of this is definitely the Fort and its surrounding environs. I also very much appreciated the decision to locate the game in more or less the same place as the original and being able to witness the effects of time’s passage. The plot is huge amounts of sci-fi guff and endless exposition, but it seeds just enough mystery in there to hold your interest and does a decent job of foreshadowing the inevitable Big Plot Twist. Somehow it all hangs together, even when you add the game’s baddies, a group of techno-organic alien invaders, into the equation. And last up are the Morkons, the new kids on the block, who lived out the apocalypse underground, worship a god of destruction, and dress like the Cenobites from Hellraiser. Multiclassed hippy-vikings the Berserkers reject technology and have figured out how to convert elex into mana which allows them to cast spells. They birthed the pasty-faced Albs, the baddies from the first game, who you can now align with. The Clerics are a hi-tech religious order who have definitely been playing too much Warhammer 40k. The Outlaws are the most stereotypically post-apocalyptic in the Mad Max-cum-Fallout vein, all scrap armour and conventional weapons. The mix of factions is wonderfully bonkers and makes me think of a bunch of LARPers who all turned up to a game expecting entirely different settings. 160-ish years later, we’re left with a handful of different groups who have all learned to use elex in different ways. Elex 2 returns to the post-apocalyptic world of Magalan, which looked a lot like modern day Earth until a comet carrying the eponymous substance smashed into the planet. Watch on YouTube Content warning: this review includes mention of threats of physical violence towards a childĪt first glance, this kind of “why the heck not?” attitude is all over the place. It’s the sort of random that I can respect, and I only wish the game had more. It makes no sense whatsoever and the only explanation I can come up with is that someone involved in the game really likes Billy Idol and just wanted him in their game. In the 40-ish hours I spent playing the game, I had no reason to return to the amphitheatre. ( Whiskey & Pills from his 2014 album, rather than anything you’re likely to have heard.) After the cutscene, you’re left in the empty amphitheatre, alone apart from a couple of guys talking about how great the concert was. I immediately made a beeline for the concert venue and was treated to a rather unflattering rendering of Billy Idol and his guitar-playing chum performing a song. The broadcast was announcing a concert at the nearby amphitheatre. Just a few minutes out of Elex 2’s, pleasantly brief, tutorial area I came across a radio. From: Steam, GOG, Humble, Epic Games Store.I was actually planning on covering guides for ELEX II but I can’t even play it at this stage.Elex II is an ambitious and slightly bonkers open world RPG hampered by badly written and unpleasant characters. This made me lose all my hopes for this game. No updates, not even a tweet, from the developers. So I thought the developers would take note and respond with a fix for these issues or at least give us an update on when these issues will be fixed.īut so far (at the time of this writing it’s been almost a week since launch) it’s been nothing but tumbleweeds. The questing and level issues were all there.Īnd it wasn’t just me either, many other players were experiencing these issues. The lag, FPS drops, performance issues were all there. Sadly, the day-one patch did nothing to improve the game. So I waited for the official launch and the day-one patch. After all, I was playing the review build. I thought these issues would be fixed in the day-one patch. Why I’m DisappointedĪfter going through all that I pretty much rage-quit the game. I managed to complete the first few missions and while I was on my way to another area on the map, I was attacked by a super high-level enemy. ![]() Players occasionally perform maneuvers that are “frame perfect,” meaning they have only one frame of animation during which to execute it. This is apparent even in runs that don’t exploit glitches. It takes patience, skill, and tons of work to find all of these methods, and utilizing them requires a deep understanding of a game’s systems. It’s why Zelda players often hop to their destination facing backward, rather than running directly forward.) (Finding small ways to move faster is a key part of speedrunning. In layman’s terms, getting injured gives players the ability to move faster for a short period of time, and the runner tricks the computer into giving him that boost permanently by reloading a save file quickly, multiple times. The player clips out of the map - that is, he gets outside of the environment’s boundaries - and then “speedcripples” himself. Take, for instance, this speedrun of Fallout 3 - a game players can get lost in for hundreds of hours - being beaten in less than 15 minutes. The captivating reason to watch Any% speedruns is not to see someone play the game extremely well as the developer intended, but to see them push the game’s software to its breaking point, finding the seams and ripping them open. Here, just before the 16-minute mark, you can see well-known runner Cosmo warp from the game’s very first dungeon to its final boss by exploiting a glitch. It involves confusing the game into spawning the player into the wrong level. And then there’s something known as the wrong warp, which is what allows runners to beat the classic Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, in 20 minutes. There are death warps and save warps, which can move players to different locations in a game if they die or reload a save, respectively. Speedrunning is a hobby that can lead to impenetrable sentences like this, cribbed from the Metroid wiki entry on sequence breaking: “The Wall Jump can be used to collect Power Bombs before the Grapple Beam, the Wave Beam, Spazer Beam, X-Ray Scope, reach Kraid early, and get into the Wrecked Ship without the Grapple and thus collect an early Gravity Suit.”Īnother popular tool of speedrunners is the warp, of which there are many types. On a regular play-through, certain areas can’t be accessed without acquiring certain necessary items - so players develop new techniques not strictly intended by the game designers, like wall-jumping, or using bombs to get to otherwise inaccessible areas. (Donors to GDQ often reference killing or saving animals in their messages, a nod to the final sequence of Super Metroid in which you can either save animals and waste seconds, or leave them to die and get a better time.) According to the site, an average run is about seven and a half hours. Speedrunning Super Metroid, the quintessential game for this field, requires sequence breaking to complete in under an hour. Almost always, this means finding ingenious ways to exploit a game’s systems or glitches in the code.Įxploiting glitches allows what is known as a sequence break - literally a break in the sequence of events that make up a game’s progression. Any% is the opposite, in that players can use whatever means necessary in order to get to the game’s finale. This is, generally, known as 100 percent. ![]() In the course of playing through a game normally, a player would go through the sequence of levels as the game directs, fulfilling all of the requirements in order to get to the credits. There are many different categories of speedrunning, but the default category, and arguably the most fascinating one, is called Any%. ![]() Players sit down and demonstrate and narrate how they are able to get from the beginning of a game to its end credits, in record time. GDQ is a round-the-clock “speed-running” marathon in which players finish video games as quickly as possible (while also raising money for charity). That’s one reason that I love Games Done Quick. Of course, when you get too carried away with that notion, you can lose sight of the fact that the video games are, at their core, pieces of software that execute in the same way that Microsoft Word does - and that video games’ software-ness, far from being a mark against them, can often make them more interesting. Video games are more than just very expensively produced software - this line of argument goes - they’re artistic works of evocative imagery, technical wizardry, themes, narratives, and sound. As gaming has ballooned into a billion-dollar industry over the last couple of decades, some of its most ardent supporters and earliest enthusiasts have begun to make a case for games not as a category of the entertainment industry, but as art.
